Drilling of hydro fracturing wells in Pennsylvania has exploded recently with 1327 wells drilled in the last 19 months.

The controversial practice of hydro fracture drilling requires massive amounts of water (at least 3.5 mil. gal.) leading to concerns about water quality for the region and millions of people that rely on the watershed for drinking water.

Complications from the hydro fracturing process are evident in the area around Carter Rd., in Dimock where 15 households are being supplied alternative water sources (mostly bottles) by Cabot Oil and Gas after 3 of their wells contaminated the local water table.

Susquehanna County can be seen as a foreshadowing of what can be expected as drilling spreads closer to New York State, through Wayne County, PA in the next year. New York State is considering regulations for the gas industry before allowing drillers to move across the border.
